Signs Your Pet May Need After Hours Veterinary Care
- Difficulty breathing (panting excessively, wheezing, gasping)
- Snake bite
- Uncontrolled bleeding
- Loss of consciousness or collapse
- Sudden weakness or inability to stand
- Seizures lasting more than a few minutes or multiple seizures
- Persistent vomiting or diarrhea (especially with blood)
- Distended abdomen or bloating (could indicate GDV, a life-threatening condition)
- Ingestion of toxic substances (chocolate, xylitol, certain plants, medications)
- Severe pain (whining, reluctance to move, aggression when touched)
- High fever (above 103.5°F/39.7°C)
- Difficulty urinating (straining, crying, or unable to go at all)
- Pale or blue gums (suggests oxygen/blood flow issues)
- Excessive drooling, especially with retching (potential poisoning or bloat)
- Trauma (hit by a car, fall, bite wounds, burns)
- Sudden blindness or disorientation
- Swollen or bulging eyes
- Heatstroke symptoms (excessive panting, weakness, collapse)
